Meet The Brewer

Mike Roy’s House Brewed Beer

A native of New Hampshire, Mike had his craft beer awakening while bartending at a club on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. During his time away from selling domestic light lager he sought new and exciting flavors of beer. Mike got his start in the brewing industry in 2000 at IncrediBREW in Nashua, NH. There batches were brewed on a small scale so the ability to learn about raw materials ( barley, hops, yeast) and their role in beer was endless.
In 2004, Mike got the opportunity to take over the brewing operations at Milly’s Tavern in Manchester, NH. A reclamation project, he helped steer the brewery from anonymity in the New England craft beer scene to a regular staple among locals and beer enthusiasts. During his tenure Milly’s won Best Beer in a Boston Globe People’s Choice event in 2005, two gold medals in the 2006 Great International Beer Festival for both Porter and Imperial Stout and was named Best Brew Pub in New Hampshire by Ratebeer.com for three straight years in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
In 2007, Mike started at Beer Works, a Boston, MA area chain of brewpubs. The higher production volume allowed him to fine tune many brewery procedures as well as learn new ones. Though he says the best part of his time there was the friendships he formed with the other brewers in the company.

Now Mike comes to Franklin’s in January 2010 with 10 years experience in the brewing industry. Mike considers himself a versatile 21st century American brewer, believing that the tastes for beer in America are seemingly infinite, allowing him to brew an array of styles not found under one roof anywhere outside of this country. For him its about understanding and respecting brewing history while at the same time being fearless and dedicated to be original. He’s a passionate brewer and an avid beer enthusiast who tries to take an objective look at the industry as well as his own work, being his own worst critic thus dedicated to the pursuit of perfection. Feel free to drop him an email with any comments or questions you might have at beergasms@aol.com and checkout his Franklin’s Brewery blog at http://www.franklinsbrewery.blogspot.com
